Special edition of the Australian Journal of Primary Health
The Onemda VicHealth Group at Melbourne School of Population and Global Health and La Trobe University launched a special edition of the Australian Journal of Primary Health entitled Health Promotion in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Communities on Wednesday 19 November 2014. The volume, edited by Kerry Arabena, Kevin Rowley and Sarah MacLean, includes articles by first-time and experienced authors. Papers cover diverse issues including improving food security, using sport as a vehicle for health promotion and strategies to improve mental health for Indigenous peoples.
Around 50 people attended the launch, representing Indigenous community organisations, universities and government departments. Kerry Arabena, Libby Kalucy and Alister Thorpe spoke movingly about the importance of conducting research which engages Indigenous communities and is relevant to community needs.
