The Victorian Aboriginal Child Mortality Study (VACMS)

Phase 4 of the Victorian Aboriginal Child Mortality Study (VACMS) has now been completed and the final report has been released of this research project. The Report provides a comprehensive description of the patterns and trends of deaths of Victorian-born Aboriginal infants and children from 1999 to 2008.

This research was carried out in partnership between the Onemda VicHealth Group and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO). Advice was also provided by the Aboriginal Health Branch of the Department of Health and the Clinical Council’s Unit (DoH), Victoria. This important and innovative research was funded by the Australian Research Council, Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Department of Health Victoria, the Lowtija Institute and the R E Ross Trust.
